We are pleased to announce that Peter Quinn, founder of Wachusett Brewery, will be personally pouring an assortment of Wachusett beer including his big hit, Milk Stout and his newly released, Quins Amber Ale.
Breweries participating in our beer tasting are Brooklyn, Southern Tier, Cisco and Off-Shore from Nantucket, TRÖEGS, Duval and Ommegang, Gearys, Sierra Nevada, and Wachusett.

Enjoying Alcohol Without Gluten
By now you have no doubt heard that Gluten can be an unwanted part of your lifestyle. It’s been known to have adverse effects on those with low tolerance levels as well as an unwanted component of many diets or just “healthier eating” practices. This writer is not suggesting you give up pizza, pasta, or bread as all can be made in a gluten free manner. Rather, I would just like to point out a few facts and offerings that we have to avoid gluten intake and still be able to enjoy alcohol.
GLUTEN FREE BEER - The magic behind these is that Sorghum is used in place of the more traditional malts and grains which do contain gluten. We stock the following:
Bards Calories-155 Carbs- (14 g, 5% DV) Total fat-0
Redbridge Calories-127 Carbs-(12.3 g, 4% DV) Total fat-0
New Planet Calories-160 Carbs-(17g, 6% DV) Total fat-0
WINE - For the most part wine is gluten free as it is a grape based product. HOWEVER, better wines that are aged in oak may be sealed with a flour based product that does contain gluten (more predominant in Europe than in the U.S.). The only way to truly know is to contact the winery directly. Also note that “flavored wines”(ie.Boones Farm, etc.) may not be gluten free as the added flavorings may contain Gluten.
WINE COOLERS/MIKES/SMIRNOFF MALTS - As a rule of thumb you should not consider these products to be gluten free. Perhaps down the road we will see “gluten free” offerings but not now.
HARD CIDERS - Because they are Apple based hard ciders are gluten free and some are organic as well. In addition to the popular Woodchuck brand we are also proud to offer Angry Orchard from Sam Adams as well as 2 tasty new comers to the cider scene, J.K Scrumpys and Crispin Ciders.

SPIRITS - According to the U.S. Institution on Health “most” straight alcohol is gluten free in the sense that any gluten present will be removed/destroyed during the distillation. However, they also state that there may be 20 parts per million present in the finished product….net, net its “technically” gluten free but not actually gluten free. Additionally there is strong feelings that “cheap” versions of straight alcohol may contain gluten in higher amounts as they are not distilled in the same manner or as many times as the name brands…..that’s why there less expensive to begin with!!! In an attempt to give you some “go to” straight alcohol that’s gluten free I feel strongly based on the research that’s out there that these can do the trick:
Ciroc, Chopin, Lukusova Vodkas (Potato based) Brady,Cognac,and Ozuo (Grape based)
Tito’s Handmade Vodka (Corn based) 4 Orange Vodka (Orange based)
Tequila (Agave plant based) Rum (Sugar cane based)
Traditional “brown goods” such as Whiskeys, Bourbons, and Scotch may be technically gluten free but they are grain based so there can be trace amounts of gluten in the finished product.
